3 TIMES AND WAS TURNED DOWN. ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT SHE WAS ACCEPTED AND BECAME THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN TO GRADUATE FROM THE EAST TEXAS STATE COLLEGE. UPON GRADUATING SHE RECEIVED A PLAQUE FROM EAST TEXAS STATE FOR HER COURAGE IN THE FIGHT FOR EQUALITY.
